Acciaierie d'Italia inaugurates in Taranto the Technical Academy, an ecosystem of advanced training for the ecological transition

08/03/2023

Taranto, 8 March 2023 – The steel industry is one of the productive sectors most subject to the current technological and ecological transformations, which require advanced and multidisciplinary skills in order to be managed.

To address these needs, Acciaierie d'Italia has created the Technical Academy, a specialized training school designed to integrate the historically existing initiatives in the company with an additional offer dedicated to the most promising graduates in STEM subjects.

It is an ecosystem in which training, study, in-depth analysis and research meet with the aim of keeping on reducing the environmental impact of the Group's plants and proceeding along the path of decarbonization.

This project ideally joins in a line of continuity with the partnerships signed by the company in 2021 with the ITS Cuccovillo Higher Technical Institute and in 2022 with the Polytechnic of Bari and the University of Salento.

The aim of the Technical Academy is to shape a virtuous collaboration network between internal resources and the academic and scientific world, in order to guarantee multiple stimuli, multi-disciplinarity and the needed in-depth study of complex topics.

Participants in the Technical Academy will be hosted in a dedicated location within the Taranto plant, inaugurated this morning. The total investment to develop the project amounted to 5.5 million euros.

At today's inauguration, together with the CEO of Acciaierie d'Italia, Lucia Morselli, the Rector of the Polytechnic of Bari, Francesco Cupertino, the Rector of the University of Salento, Fabio Pollice and Professor Nicoletta Ditaranto of the Aldo Moro University of Bari, were present.

Cosimo Borraccino, President's Councilor for the Coordination of the Plan for Taranto, spoke on behalf of the Puglia Region.

The Technical Academy is another important project of the company in the wake of industrial and environmental transition of the steel industry, which will allow us to direct the training of over thirty graduates every year to help successfully face the challenges in front of us”, said Adolfo Buffo, General Director for Quality, Research and Sustainable Development of Acciaierie d'Italia. “Support from highly qualified resources is essential in order to guarantee the sustainable evolution of our plants”, concluded Buffo.
