Acciaierie d'Italia and Sirius Ship Management: unifying the Country by transporting steel

07/06/2021

Working with Acciaierie d’Italia is for us at the same time a reason of proud and a challenge to improve and modernize our sector to the service of one of largest industrial groups of our Country”.

Francesca Manzi, Director General of Sirius Ship Management tells us about the commitment of her company to the Italian steel sector.

Our role, within the cooperation with Acciaierie d’Italia, is that of manning agent. We take care of all that is concerning the fleet sealing personnel, from the selection to the crew changes, up to the wage slips, including the fundamental activities of training and making the seamen familiar with the needs of a manufacturing company”. The fleet of Acciaierie d’Italia, made of 4 pusher vessels, 8 barges and one freighter, will be managed by Sirius Ship Management both in the Mediterranean and in international waters. “Pusher vessels are ships designed to drive the barges, devoted to the transport of finished and semi-finished products from Taranto to other plants of Acciaierie d’Italia. The freighter Gemma, called this way because iron and carbon minerals are shipped with no separation, takes care of the supply of raw materials that feed the Taranto plant, mainly coming from South America".

The diverse needs of the steel producer require such a level of competences and attention that only companies with a long dated tradition such as Sirius Ship Management – active for 25 years in the field of manning – can offer” Francesca Manzi explains, adding that “thanks to the experience of Filippo Guadagna, currently the chairman of the company, and the participation of the d’Amico Group, we can offer very advanced management means covering all aspects of the activity of the staff aboard our ships”.

The sector, as many others, is currently navigating a phase characterized by always increasing innovation: “Innovation is an integral part of the shipping: vessels are transport means constantly evolving and those who work on them have to be always updated to the new technologies. Training is fundamental: personnel aboard has not only to be capable of driving a fleet, but also able to connect with all their interlocutors both at institutional and company level) as they compete with an always higher professionality at national and international level”.

That is a necessity even more relevant if put in the context of the cooperation with the steel industry and one of the most important Italian production chains. “We like thinking that the first characteristic our seamen must have in their cooperation with Acciaierie d’Italia has to be having passion for the sea. If the competences to do this job can be earned, enter this career means to make a choice for life. To whom who show this passion, Sirius Ship Management offers a growth possibility inside an Italian company with a strong international vocation, capable of assuring efficiency to the production cycle of one of the largest Italian companies with care and professionality”.

According to Francesca Manzi, “the cooperation with Acciaierie d’Italia is at the same time an arrival and a starting point for Sirius Ship Management: the demonstration of the quality of our services and the motivation to contribute always more to the Italian steel production”.
