Taranto, June 19, 2026 – The Federmanager National Council met today at the Acciaierie d’Italia plant in Taranto, bringing together its representatives from across Italy in the presence of President Valter Quercioli, General Manager Mario Cardoni and Vice President Gherardo Zei.
The choice of the Taranto plant as the venue for the meeting confirms Federmanager’s focus on the future of the Italian steel industry and on Acciaierie d’Italia as a strategic site for the competitiveness of the national industrial system and for the sustainability of the country’s main manufacturing supply chains.
During the day, members of the National Council met with the top management of Acciaierie d’Italia in AS and participated in a discussion with over one hundred executives and middle managers from the Group, who were either present at the plant or joined via video link from various company locations. The discussion centered on the value of the managerial expertise within the company—which has ensured operational continuity in an increasingly complex environment—and the central role played by executives and middle managers, who are called upon to demonstrate accountability, competence, and adaptability during a crucial phase for the future of the company and the entire steel industry.
“The presence of Federmanager’s National Council at the Taranto plant is an important sign of support for Acciaierie d’Italia in A.S. and for the role that the site continues to play in the national steel industry. The dialogue between Federmanager and company management confirms that expertise, accountability, and vision are essential elements for navigating this phase and sustaining an industrial outlook.” stated Eng. Giancarlo Quaranta, special commissioner of Acciaierie d’Italia in A.S..
This initiative is part of a long-standing commitment to support and engage with Acciaierie d’Italia in A.S. that Federmanager has developed over time, and follows the institutional visit to the Taranto plant on October 9 of last year. This commitment goes hand in hand with the Federation’s participation in the broader institutional dialogue on the future of the Italian steel industry and with the conviction that the sector’s revitalization requires an industrial vision capable of combining competitiveness, innovation, sustainability, and the development of human capital.
“Convening the National Council at the Taranto plant reaffirms that the future of Acciaierie d’Italia concerns the entire national industrial system. The former Ilva is an indispensable asset for the region and for Italy. The Taranto plant, Europe’s largest integrated steel mill, represents a unique strategic asset in terms of production capacity, industrial expertise, and economic value. Its continued operation is essential to guarantee the country’s primary steel production and to preserve an industrial, professional, and technological heritage that must not be lost. In this context, the contribution of executives and middle managers represents a wealth of expertise, responsibility, and leadership that has ensured operational continuity even during the most challenging periods and will be crucial in guiding the company’s path toward revitalization and transformation.” stated Valter Quercioli, President of Federmanager.
The day concluded with a tour of the plant’s facilities, an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s production operations and to engage directly with the professionals who ensure its daily operations.
