Taranto, February 12, 2026 - With reference to Senator Turco's statements regarding the restart of Blast Furnace 2, Acciaierie d'Italia in E.A. clarifies that no plastic "co-incineration" process is currently underway.
The issue in question concers, instead, the "Polymer Injection" project, presented in 2022 to the Industrial Transition Fund (D.I. 10/21/2022 and subsequent Ministerial Decree MIMIT 30/08/2023), financed with PNRR funds, to support the decarbonization of industrial processes and promote the adaptation of the Italian production system to EU policies on fighting climate change.
The project was assigned the code AF-2, which has no connection with Blast Furnace 2 (AFO/2). The similarity between the two acronyms likely led to the misunderstanding that gave rise to Senator Turco's statements.
It should also be noted that the 'Polymer Injection' project was already known to the institutions and local authorities in Puglia, as members of the Investigative Group that drew up and approved the PIC, a document that was then approved by the Services Conference.
The project was selected for funding and is covered by provision no. 471 of the AIA, issued to Acciaierie d'Italia in E.A. on August 4, 2025.
