Workplace safety at the center of the meeting between Acciaierie d’Italia in extraordinary administration, the Ministry of Labor, Inail, and Trade Unions

12/03/2026

Taranto, 12th march 2026 – A meeting was held today at the Taranto plant of Acciaierie d’Italia in Extraordinary Administration between company management, a delegation from the Ministry of Labor and INAIL, and the trade unions, in line with what was agreed upon on March 5 at Palazzo Chigi during the discussions between the Government and the metalworkers’ trade unions.

The meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue among the parties, allowed for an in-depth examination of the main aspects related to plant and worker safety through an operational discussion that enabled the parties to share an overview of the status of measures already implemented and to identify further areas for improvement to be addressed in the coming days.

In this context, the imminent launch of the Safety Analysis Groups was confirmed, as previously agreed upon during a recent union meeting at the Taranto headquarters. The Groups, serving as permanent fora for discussion between company departments and worker safety representatives, will be tasked with mapping plant conditions and contributing to the identification of improvement measures to further strengthen oversight of prevention and safety issues.

A training program has also been planned for contractors and company representatives who coordinate their operations, aimed at raising safety standards and fostering greater integration between internal and external parties.

During the meeting, it was also decided to establish a working group composed of representatives from the participating parties, which will be tasked with examining the types of collective agreements applied by companies in the supply chain and their effects on the system of worker protections.

Finally, data regarding workers employed in maintenance activities were reviewed, including their participation in the extraordinary layoff fund rotation.

Today’s meeting is part of a joint effort to further strengthen safety measures, based on full and ongoing collaboration between institutions, the company, and labor unions. For this purpose, following a proposal by the Ministry of Labor, these meetings will become a regular forum for discussion.
