Acciaierie d'Italia in E.A: no new increase in layoff. Training program for 1,550 workers proposed to unions.

19/11/2025

Rome, November 19th, 2025 - With regard to certain rumors circulated among union representatives and media outlets, the Extraordinary Commissioners of Acciaierie d'Italia wish to provide definitive clarification.

As announced during yesterday's meeting at Palazzo Chigi, attended by the Commissioners and government representatives, there are no plans to increase the number of workers on temporary layoff (Cassa Integrazione) beyond the current 4,450. Any claims regarding an extension of the temporary layoff scheme to include an additional 1,550 workers are unfounded.

This position was reiterated several times during the meeting and reported in the official statement released yesterday by Palazzo Chigi, which confirms that “there will be no further extension of the layoff , thus accepting the main request made by the unions themselves during the previous round of talks”.

The 1,550 workers mentioned in some reports will be involved exclusively in a training and re-skilling program, scheduled to coincide with planned maintenance work on the plants.

The training program will involve at least 60 days of activities for each worker, for a total of 93,000 hours of training, and will cover the entire company.

It should also be noted that the training period is considered equivalent in all respects to time spent on duty, including the accrual of all contractual benefits, including paid vacations.

The Extraordinary Commissioners therefore wish to reassure all Group personnel that any other interpretation regarding further use of the layoff does not reflect what was officially communicated during yesterday's meeting.
