Taranto, 4 April 2023 – Acciaierie d'Italia has been certified in accordance with the UNI CEI EN ISO 50001:2018 standard, the Italian version of ISO50001 international standard, which specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an Energy Management System. Its application will allow the company to pursue a systematic approach towards continuous improvement of energy performance and of the Energy Management System itself.
The Energy Management System of Acciaierie d'Italia has successfully passed all the checks of the certifying body, IGQ - Italian Quality Assurance Institute, after a process that began in July last year. The certification of the Taranto production site, which, in terms of size and characteristics, is the most complex in Italy from energy point of view, is an important result.
The steelmaking business is one of the most energy-intensive industrial activities and Acciaierie d'Italia is engaged in the search for increasingly sustainable solutions. Currently, inside the Apulian plant there are two thermoelectric power plants for the production of energy, operating mostly with the iron and steel gases produced by the plant in a combined co-generation cycle, thus saving about 1 billion m3 of natural gas per year.
ISO 50001 adds to the other certifications already obtained by the Taranto plant: SA 8000: 2014 (social accountability), API Q1, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 29001, UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 (quality), UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 (environment), UNI ISO 45001:2018 (health and safety), UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 (training).
