Taranto plant hosts the first edition of "European Casting Forum"

06/02/2024

Taranto, 6th February 2024 – The first edition of the "European Casting Forum" is being held today and tomorrow at the Taranto plant, an event organized by the French company Transvalor, world leader in the numerical simulation of material manufacturing processes, in collaboration with Acciaierie d'Italia.

Several Italian and international companies are attending the event. At the end of today's work, a visit to the main facilities of the plant is also planned.

The conference will discuss high-performance numerical simulation models for most of metal forming and transformation processes, both in the solid and liquid states. These solutions allow to manage all aspects relating to cost, quality, safety, and technological innovation effectively.

"The objective of Acciaierie d'Italia is to be part of the Research & Development Centres equipped with advanced digital tools and to raise awareness among their production line managers about the involvement of Research & Development in solving production and process development issues with the aid of advanced tools", stated Adolfo Buffo, Director of Quality, Research and Sustainability of Acciaierie d'Italia.

In particular, the focus is on numerical modelling to support design and problem solving for the optimization of the solidification process of liquid steel in continuous casting. The simulation of the casting process with numerical models allows to design process modifications and optimize process parameters to improve the quality of semi-products and finished products. Digital simulation has also now become an essential tool useful for designing industrial components reducing the number of tests and prototypes, and for detecting production defects.
