Taranto, June 26th 2025 –The Extraordinary Administrators of Acciaierie d'Italia in Extraordinary Administration announce that it has become necessary to update the implementation schedule of the Restart Plan due to technical issues that were unforeseeable at the time of its preparation. This was therefore a totally unexpected and unforeseen event.
In particular, the impossibility of reactivating Blast Furnace 2 (Afo/2) had a significant impact on the schedule. When extraordinary management took over, Blast Furnace 2 was shut down but loaded with cast iron and could not be emptied due to the high residual internal temperature. The removal operations, which began only in December 2024 and were completed in March 2025, were complex and carried out with the utmost caution for safety reasons.
Only after completing preliminary operations was it possible to detect serious damage to the plant, which certainly originated prior to the Extraordinary Administration taking over in February 2024. In view of the situation that emerged, and in order to protect the safety of the plants and workers, it was decided not to restart AFO/2, while at the same time arranging for the urgent purchase of the materials needed for restoration, in line with the technical procurement times.
This was compounded in May 2025 by a further plant event that led to the shutdown of Blast Furnace 1 (Afo/1), the duration of which cannot be determined at this time.
These plant conditions have had a direct impact on the planned operating schedule, although the objective of ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and full protection of workers remains unchanged.
The Extraordinary Administrators will continue to operate responsibly, ensuring full cooperation with the institutions and all parties involved in the industrial site's relaunch process.
